I just reinstalled windows xp on my dell dimension 2400. Dell recently sent me the drivers and utilities cd for my computer but i am having problems installing it. I put the cd in the computer and a screen opened and on the left drop down menu i can choose system model. But the dimension 2400 is not listed and i don't which system model to pick. It just has dimension c521, dxc061, dimension dxpo61, dimension e521, dm061, xps710 I don't know which to choose or what to do. I f any one knows how to solve this problem or another way i can install the driver and utilities using this cd please let me know. The Resource CD is too new for the Dimension 2400.

Dell sends what they have available on the shelf, and since the 2400 is now nearly eight years old, the disk isn't likely to have what you need. Instead, download from here:. Use the download via web browser method, which will be the second option in the box that pops up offering you the Dell Download Manager. The download manager doesn't work well for many people, and downloading one at a time from your browser seems to be more reliable. You need to load the drivers in the following order: Intel Chipset Driver, Video Adapter Driver, Network Interface Adapter Driver (this is the Ethernet port on the back of the machine), and Sound Adapter Driver. If you need drivers for additional devices they may be loaded in any order after the first five. The answer is pretty simple, Dell Support screwed up and left the old driver information in the 'support' download for customers hving this issue.

I found the Sound Driver by using google on the ADI 198X driver. Dell has the correct answer but not where we can readily find and use them.

My suggestion to you is simply go back to the support page and copy the driver name then google it getting the latest diver info available. The sound driver issue was actually corrected back in 2005 but never 'updated' correctly.Ed G. Your not alone. I have the OS cd, but not the one with drivers for the chipset, the network card, video, etc.

I called Dell and they said that their new policy is to not sent this out. I realize that I can download nearly all of the drivers from the website, but what about the included software that they sent. I realize that most of them I won't use, but it is nice knowing that I have them there if I want to try them. I like to keep my systems real clean, so I don't want to use the symantec PC restore from the hidden partition, I would rather start completely from scratch and only add what I want.
