I ended up using a mini dock, and that USB 2 port worked. I had to also use a USB hub for a keyboard and mouse. I used the Windows 7 certificate number under the battery to activate Windows. I downloaded the various drivers from support.xploretech.com. I had to use a hardwired Ethernet hookup in the mini dock until I got the proper wireless drivers. You might not need a dock to load from the USB port if yours is USB 2.
Later, I upgraded to Windows 10 doing an in place upgrade from Windows 7, using any necessary drivers from later models of the F5 series where required. Windows 8.1 drivers work ok in Windows 10. I also went to the Intel site and used their driver checker to upgrade drivers.
The F5 is pretty generic, and didn't really require any tricks to get things working. My unit doesn't have a barcode or RFID reader, so I don't have any experience with those.
A standard dock with multiple USB ports should work ok also. Windows 10 is great on my F5t, and I wouldn't go back to Windows 7. They have Windows 7 drivers on the support website, so you shouldn't have issues installing it. The generic flavor of Windows 7 has enough to get you up and running, until you install the other drivers.
